How to fix a broken QR code

Fix broken QR codes: diagnose dead links vs damaged print, update dynamic redirects, re-export artwork, and reprint overlays when the pattern itself is ruined.

"Broken" can mean the camera will not read the image, or the scan opens a dead page. Fix path depends which failure mode you have — start by scanning an on-screen version if one exists.

Type A: scans but bad destination

  1. Open the URL manually — confirm 404 or certificate errors
  2. If dynamic, log into dashboard and update redirect
  3. Set fallback URL for expired promos
  4. See can QR codes expire

Type B: will not scan at all

  1. Check size, contrast, quiet zone — troubleshooting
  2. Re-export vector from source; avoid upscaled PNGs
  3. Reprint or apply sticker overlay with new code
  4. Raise error correction if logo damaged modules — EC guide
